With counterfeit and imitation printer inks widely sold online, knowing how to identify genuine Epson packaging is the simplest way to safeguard your hardware and prevent costly repairs.
Non-genuine inks often mimic Epson branding and box designs closely. However, authentic Epson ink packaging distributed in Malaysia contains distinct, multi-layered security features that counterfeits cannot easily replicate.
Here are the three key security checkpoints to inspect before using any ink for your printer.
The Top Lid Hologram & "GO GENUINE" QR Sticker
Every authentic retail Epson ink box is sealed at the top flap with an optical security sticker. You can verify it with three simple steps:
- Check it: Examine the hologram sticker on the packaging. When you shine a light on it, the Epson monogram should appear clearly. Tilting the sticker reveals the words "Epson Genuine".
- Scan it: Use your phone's camera to scan the QR code on the packaging and follow the official link provided.
- Confirm it: The official portal or app will confirm in seconds if your product is authentic. If the system reports an error or displays a suspicious page, you should report it immediately.
The "EPSON FOR MALAYSIA ONLY" Tamper-Evident Bottom Seal
Turn the box upside down to inspect the bottom opening. Authentic stock intended for the Malaysian market features a distinctive deep blue security tape:
- The label clearly reads "EPSON FOR MALAYSIA ONLY" in bold white lettering.
- If this bottom tape has been slit, peeled, double-taped, or is missing entirely, the ink bottle may have been tampered with or substituted.
Front Circular Colour-Shifting Security Label
On the front upper corner of genuine EPSON ink bottles, you will find a circular security seal:
- The circular badge indicates "Genuine EPSON • Colour Shifting Label".
- When shifting your viewing angle, the inner seal dynamically changes shade (bronze/green shifting effect) rather than looking like a flat, static printed graphic.

Once low-grade or counterfeit ink enters the ink lines and print head, cleaning or flushing the system requires complete technician disassembly. Furthermore, damage resulting from counterfeit consumables is not covered under Epson manufacturer warranty.
